Whilst attending a yoga class is wonderful and should be encouraged sometimes it just isn’t practical to get to class. Life can get in the way; working late at the office, car problems even finding a babysitter can lead to you missing your practice. So I've pulled together some simple steps you can take to establish a home Yoga routine that will help you support your mental well being and your physical health.

Time Choose a convenient time for your practice to begin. I always start the day with yoga it is generally considered to be the best as it keeps energy levels high during the day, to ease myself out of bed I promise it's only a few sun salutations, but inevitably I end up doing more. But it could be afternoons that work best for you, a great way to boost energy during that 3pm slump. Likewise an evening practice will help to unwind and release tension in the body collected during the day.

So choose a time that is best for you and be flexible with it, don’t get caught up in having to practice at that exact time every day. Adapt and go with the flow.

Set the scene  To help get my mind into my practice there are a few things I do to help set the scene. I turn on my humidifier filled with my favourite oils.

I like to pick the aroma to match the season or time of the day, for example in summer I choose fresh linen and during winter months I choose cinnamon. I also love adding some body lotion to my touch points, at the moment I am loving Fearne Cotton's Happy Range

Music is also something I prefer for my practice, again this is down to preference many don’t think yoga should be practiced to music as it causes distraction but its whatever you find suitable.  But I have to be honest, on of my all time fave albums to practice to is Massive Attack! Dress for comfort  You don’t need specific yoga clothing to practice yoga. To be honest most of my practice is carried out in pjs! Light, roomy and comfortable. I you are taking on an evening practice I do like to wash the day from me first and shower.

Duration  It is far better to do ten minutes of yoga a day than one hour a week so adapt your routine incorporate yoga into your daily life.  Hold balances whilst waiting for the kettle to boil, stand on foot whilst you brush your teeth. Stretch up tall when you get out of bed in the morning.  And if you want to refer back to a teacher from time to time please do attend my class on a Monday 5.30pm - 6.30pm Sarah
